On the day of surgery, you will meet initially with the nurse and then the anesthesiology staff, who will carefully explain the type of anesthesia they will be using. After this, Dr. Kapoor will re-examine you and review the surgical plan. Lastly, he will usually make some markings. After this, you will be escorted to the operating room, where you will be carefully monitored and general anesthesia will be administered. The procedure takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour to complete, after which time you will be in the recovery room, where a nurse will carefully monitor you. You can expect to be slightly drowsy most of the day. Most patients do not have a significant amount of pain during this time and we recommend taking pain medications as needed every four to six hours. You can typically expect to be able to return to work in 3-5 days and start exercise and more strenuous activities in 3-4 weeks.
